Vapor Barriers
Vapor barriers are designed to completely block any intrusion of water either as liquid (rain/ground water), solid (snow/ice) or water vapor through concrete flooring or through walls in buildings and homes.
Air often holds a great deal of moisture in the vapor form, and when air moves from location to location in your home, the vapor moves with it. Although the dry Colorado climate hinders some vapor migration, it is important to utilize vapor barriers to control the transport of moisture-laden air. Pinnacle can help you create the right strategy for both climate and change of season based on where you live (foothills vs. the plains).
Incorrect use of vapor barriers has increased the occurrence of moisture related problems in homes today. Originally intended to prevent walls and floors from getting wet, they often prevent them from drying as well. Vapor barriers installed on the interior of assemblies (walls, air conditioners, etc.) prevent drying inward.
Should I install a vapor barrier?
Before building or expanding, call Pinnacle Structural Services help you determine what is best for your home. Pinnacle can help you keep a dry comfortable home free from the damaging effects of mildew, mold, and degradation.
Pinnacle Structural Services uses VaporBlock® Plus™ 20, which resists gas and moisture migration into the building envelop when properly installed to provide protection from toxic/harmful chemicals. It can be installed as part of a passive or active control system extending across the entire building including floors, walls and crawl spaces. When installed as a passive system it is recommended to also include a ventilated system with sump(s) that could be converted to an active control system with properly designed ventilation fans.
VaporBlock® Plus™ 20 works to protect your flooring and other moisture-sensitive furnishings in the building’s interior from moisture and water vapor migration, greatly reducing condensation, mold and degradation.
